When Mrs. Adler became a Librarian, she read an article from the School Library Journal about having Yoga in the library. Mrs. Adler loved the idea, and is so excited that in the 2017-2018 school year, the library officially began and is still having Yoga in the library. Thank you to all our Sequoyah students’ that participate weekly.
For the past 3 years, Leadership researched Queen Victoria and Christmas traditions, and FACS researched the Christmas foods during Queen Victoria’s reign, while Drama performed a Reader’s theater of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. Both classes presented their research in the Media Center. Mrs. Adler conducted mini lessons over Charles Dickens and The Christmas Carol, and on table etiquette. The Media Center set-up and hosted the tea party where students enjoyed a sit down tea with treats, music provided by vocal music students, and some poppers. Special guest -Queen Victoria and Prince Albert – joined us for the tea party.
7th grade Around the World, FACS, Vocal Music, and the Sequoyah Media Center completed a May Day Celebration unit. Students research the holiday May Day, the festive traditions and countries, and food. The focus and purpose of this unit is to welcome the change of season and regrowth of all the beautiful spring flowers, trees, and crops. Students will also hand make flower baskets to hang on every staff’s door in the building, will participate in an actual sit-down May Day celebration, and participate in decorating a Maypole in the Media Center to celebrate the Spring Season. We hope students will gain an appreciation for nature, the Spring Season, and have a better knowledge of the May Day holiday.
We are expanding and adding yearly to our Makerspace area in the Media Center for students to create, tinker, and learn. On February 20- Teacher Professional Day – Teachers play with our new MakerSpace items in the library! Students don’t forget to come check-out our new MakerSpace area!
