Physical Education

(6th, 7th, & 8th grade)

Course Description:
This class will focus on the importance of basic stretching and exercise procedures and the rules and skills involved for various sports, games, and physical activities.  Students will learn to apply the skills and rules taught into an actual game situation while displaying team unity and sportsmanship.  The class will also use periodic fitness assessments to measure the student’s improvements in the areas of strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Grading Procedures:  Students’s grades will come from three categories:  1. Skills test  2. Written test  3. Daily participation/effort.  The majority of the grade will come from the daily participation and effort category.  Skills test and written test are worth 100 points each and will be given either at the beginning or end of a unit.  The students will receive a possible 20 points a day for participation and effort.  These points are based on their effort (not ability) put forth during stretching, exercises, and the activity for that day.

Fitness Testing:  The semester will begin with a series of fitness test.  The test results will give the students a starting point to work from and enables them to set goals to improve in each of the various categories.  Our goal is for each student to improve themselves in the areas of strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall health awareness.  The fitness test will be worth 300 points.
