Educational Philosophy: I believe in lifelong learning, and the willingness and humility it takes to admit that you can always do better. I think it is incredibly important to laugh at your own mistakes, and allow everything that happens to be a learning opportunity! I am continuing my education through Texas Tech’s Master’s of Music Education program, and absolutely love to read literature on how to help the middle school students find their voice. More than anyone else, I learn from my students. I experiment to see what methods help them improve the most, and change what I’m doing if it’s not helping. I also am a strong believer in music literacy! If you learn one thing from my class, it will be how to read music. No one cares if you remember the harmony to some silly pop or folk song, but if you can read anything off the page, I have given you a skill that will last you a lifetime. Lastly, I believe in keeping music FUN! I try to have fun every day and want to bring that joy to my students!

Educational Philosophy: As a teacher, I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. I aim to create an atmosphere that encourages curiosity, determination, supports risk-taking and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the student’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.
